The Edmonton Poetry Festival Society has an opening for a half-time Program Coordinator. The successful candidate will work from both a home office and McLuhan House and will report to the Executive Director.

Position Title: Program Coordinator
Duration: Half-time, 14 month contract with possibility of extension
Wage: $20.00 an hour

Responsibilities

Program Coordination

  1. Program research and development of best practices
  2. Booking poets into school classrooms and coordinating details
  3. Coordinate one-day student festival
  4. Support design and production of youth program materials where relevant
  5. Advertising and promoting the youth programs to ensure full take-up
  6. Managing the available budget for the youth programs
  7. Organize and attend quarterly advisory committee meetings
  8. The creation and implementation of school database + a monitoring and evaluation system
  9. Manage call for student bus route competition and input of submissions
  10. Evaluating and reports of programs

Festival Support

  1. Recruit and coordinate volunteers to support the festival and outreach programs. Includes drivers, school program, airport pickups, event coverage, etc
  2. In conjunction with the Executive Director, keep a detailed spreadsheet for the festival week volunteer plan that includes a database of volunteers
  3. Organize a volunteer meeting one week prior to the festival and ensure all volunteers have training for positions as required
  4. Ensure volunteers receive sufficient recognition
  5. Act as point of contact during festival week and support events as required
  6. Advance prep of festival event boxes

Administrative

  1. General administrative support as needed
  2. Assist coordination of February membership drive
  3. Assist executive director during online funding campaigns

Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Dependability, self-sufficiency, attention to detail, administrative writing skills
  • Microsoft word, excel and google docs
  • Familiar with social media
  • Experience working with volunteers an asset
  • Experience working with teachers and youth an asset
  • The candidate should have 2 – 3 three years’ experience working in the non-profits or arts
  • Will have an understanding of the literary community in Edmonton
  • A diploma from the Arts and Cultural Management program is an asset
  • Candidate should have a driver’s license
  • The candidate will be a community builder and should be comfortable working with diverse groups of people.
