Bus Poem Winners Announced

Poetry Route Winners announced!

The winners of the latest round of bus poems for The Poetry Route have been announced! This round was especially cool because the submission call was aimed at students in grades 6 to 12, and boy did we receive some knockout entries! It was tough to choose just four winners, but our judges were up for the task. We’re please to announce our four winners today, and here they are!

Twelve Little Kings
by Tiana Ranta – Grade 10

Misconceptions and Explorations
by Madura Shruti Katta – Grade 12

Cliffhanger
by Michelle Yang – Grade 10

pAUsE . PLaY . rEpEAT
by Joanna Chan – Grade 12

You can read the poems and the announcement here.. We’re pleased with the response this call received. It generated some great work, and we at the Edmonton Poetry Festival and The Poetry Route are proud to feature these wonderful poems by some of our up-and-coming young poets. Thank you to all the students who sent us their work! We received roughly two hundred submissions! We’d like to send a big round of thanks to our judging committee for all their time and thoughtful consideration in narrowing the two hundred entries down to four. Because of the number of poems submitted, we plan to showcase the top thirty on our website in the new year. We’ll keep you posted on when those poems will be available.

The Poetry Route places short poems into public transit vehicles. Three times a year we circulate a new flight of four poems in 800 ETS buses and LRT cars. Poems selected for the project, funded primarily by the Edmonton Arts Council, have the potential to be viewed millions of times by transit patrons.
