Important Note: Doors will close at 11:00am sharp; no latecomers.
Life moves too fast. We’re going to slow it down for an hour, maybe even make time stand still. One Breath is a meditation on words and the spaces between words—one hour of Zen-inspired poetry. In an intimate spoken-word setting, readers will share short-form poetry that explores ideas of unity, transience, and simplicity, providing the perfect wind-down to a weekend of hard hitting verse.
The following readers will share work at One Breath:
- Philip Jagger
- Linda Pilarski
- Angela Dekort
- David Brydges
- Naomi McIlwraith
- Joanne Ellison
- Mehrdad Shokouhi
- Tyler Enfield
- Gordon McRae
- Alice Major
- Patrick M. Pilarski
Each reader will share a short piece or selection of Zen poetry—e.g. haiku, haibun, tanka, senryu, zappai, Chinese quatrains and octets, and related forms. They may bring their own work, or choose to present a Zen classic. Each reader will be bordered by silence, and the reading will flow without boundaries or introduction from one poet to the next. You are welcome to bring a cushion or a yoga mat to sit on.
We want to begin as close to 11:00am as we can. To avoid interruptions to the reading, doors will shut at 11:00am sharp, so please try to come at 10:45am to prevent missing the event!
